"Skateboarding by Hayakawa"
I've chosen a few selections from Narō's "Skateboarding by Hayakawa" (coach of Japan's gold medal-winning Olympic team) to share here first as it's a personal favorite of mine and covers much ground stylistically when it comes to the music. Expect to find flavors of indie rock, punk, jazz, orchestral, electronic, and hip-hop throughout this 7-minute reel. The dialogue was a mix of the original production set audio and voice-over narration recordings I captured in a Tokyo hotel room with Hayakawa. I created all the music and did all the audio post-production on this feature-film-length project.

"Zen by Takafumi Zenryu Kawakami"
Narō's program"Zen by Takafumi Zenryu Kawakami" (Kyoto's Shunkoin Temple Head Preist, 24th generation) was a wonderful and enlightening experience to take part in. For this program, I composed a meditative and chilled-out score of both ambient music and chillhop-esque instrumental beats. The dialogue was a mix of the original production set audio and voice-over narration recordings I captured in Kyoto during a later session with Kawakami in Shunkoin's rock garden. Most ambiences throughout the program were re-built using my own field recordings as well as custom foley I did for scenes such as the sounds of the Tea Practice, as shown here. I did all the music and audio post-production for this project. It was a bit challenging to fit the scope of it all into a short reel, but I've tried my best here to put together a nice and representative 7-minutes.
I worked on a total of 9 feature-film-length projects for Narō covering a wide range of subjects. More work examples from those projects coming here in the near future.
